Oobleck...Be the Hands

I always have the girls do the mixing and pouring when it comes to these activities. They also add the food coloring. It’s a good way to incorporate math concepts, such as measuring and counting how many drops of food coloring drops they should do, and motor skills.

Oobleck is one of those childhood memories I have that I won’t forget. I was so amazed how something could look like liquid, yet feel like a solid and then turn again liquid when you held it in your hands! The girls were equally amazed when we whipped together this oobleck activity. We decided to add some cooling racks to create some dimension. This added a cool affect as we watched the oobleck drip down the different parts of the rack. We also had three separate bowls with the primary colors of oobleck in them. it was fun to see the different colors be separate when the oobleck was still, and then start to mix once the girls picked it up.

Do you ever feel like you are searching to understand the Lord’s will for you? Like you are trying to say, “Thy will be done, whatever thy will is, but can you just tell me what thy will is?” Well here’s the thing, we have to really be willing to change.

Lately I have been feeling like the Lord has a plan for me that is bigger than my own. Like he’s saying, “RyLee, I need you. I need you to start becoming the person that I need you to be. Do not procrastinate the day of your repentance. Get ready. Read your scriptures more. Seek more. I need you. I need you to start becoming the person that I need you to be. I need you to help build my kingdom.” I couldn’t help but ponder as I watched my girls play with this oobleck. The oobleck was stagnant, unmoving, unchaning, until they placed their hands in it and got to work. Sometimes I feel like the oobleck, stuck, unmoving, unchanging. But when I strive to act rather than simply be acted upon by life, I’ve noticed life tends to go a little smoother. The Lord is able to use me more because I’m willing to change and grow. I’m willing to become the person He needs me to be. So instead of being the oobleck and simply being acted upon, I’m going to be the hands, I’m going to act.
