DIY Ladybug Counting Activity

IMG_7375.JPG

This activity turned out better than I thought it would! I drew some ladybugs for our “love bug” activity. I then colored only half of the ladybug so that my girls could complete the rest. The ladybugs ranged from 1-11 dots. When my four year old saw this activity she got so excited and immediately knew what to do without me giving her any explanation. The girls were not only counting the dots, but quickly discovered that they could answer questions such as 2 + 2 and 4+ 4 etc. We not only counted half of the ladybug, but the entire completed ladybug when they were finished. This allowed us to count up to 22!

This activity helped them develop fine motor skills, pen holding skills, counting, math concepts, matching, and symmetry! We also added in a library book all about ladybugs which allowed us to extend learning further by discussing all about ladybug’s habitats, diet, family etc. This in turn made science part of the activity as well! Honestly, this one was so good, I will definitely be doing it again! I hope you enjoy it too! Happy Valentines Day!

Watching her light up telling me what 4+4 equaled was my absolute favorite!

I was so impressed with my two year old’s ability to color in the ladybug while staying in the lines!
